This depth marker is a 5” black number on a 6×6 white tile and represents the depth of the pool. A smooth tile is used inside the pool and an abrasive tile is used on the deck.  

 

The most common use for a depth marker is to show where the shallow and deep areas are in the pool. Depth markers are always used in commercial pools, but can also be used in a residential pool. They are a great safety tool for any pool.

This is a porcelain tile which is the only type that is recommended for pools, spas or water features.  The difference between porcelain and other tiles is really one of quality rather than type.  The clay used for porcelain tiles is simply purer and more refined, making them tougher, denser and more impervious to water.  With a water absorption rate of less than 0.5%, porcelain tiles are less liable to stain and are usually more frost-resistant.
